Finding my way in Karting. Junior Rotax #31. Based in South East

About Me

My name is Fletcher, and my karting journey started just over two years ago. I began with corporate karts at Bayford Meadows in Kent before transitioning to Honda 160 Cadet competing in both arrive and drive and owner karting. However, it was the speed of the Honda 160 compared to the hire karts that truly ignited my passion for the sport.

Towards the end of 2023, I made the tough decision to pull out of the Honda 160 Cadet. After growing too tall for the kart, I decided to take a major leap and move straight into the Junior Rotax Class, skipping both the R200 and Inter. I knew this would be a huge challenge. Not only was I going to be the lightest and youngest driver in a class known for its demanding nature, but I’d also be up against older, more experienced racers.

In January 2024, I made my competitive debut in the Junior Rotax Rookie Class at Bayford Meadows. The BM plate race was my second time racing in the Junior kart, and it was challenging. Throughout the race weekend, I faced physical difficulties and my lack of experience became evident. In the final, I made a critical mistake by flooding the engine. Without the knowledge or practice to handle such a situation, I couldn’t restart the kart. Although I was disappointed not to finish the race, I still managed to secure a 12th-place finish out of 16 drivers, which gave me the confidence to continue racing.

The Junior Rotax Rookie Class at BMKR is notoriously highly competitive, attracting a large number of entrants, between 20 - 30 per round. After my BM plate experience, I knew it would be a challenge. Throughout the year, I have worked on my strength, improved my fitness, and honed my race craft. My efforts have paid off, resulting in consistent progress up the field. Initially, I was content with not placing last in the rounds but was soon setting my sights on the top 15. As the year progressed, I aimed for the top 10 and ultimately achieved that goal, finishing the last 3 rounds in 8th, 8th and 7th being only two tenths behind the front three in pace.

What I love about karting is the speed and the rush of adrenaline from wheel to wheel racing. For me, karting is more than a sport, it’s a journey of growth and learning, both physically and mentally, on and off the track. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and excited for the challenges that lie ahead. No matter the outcome, I know that each race is another step forward in my development as a driver and as an individual, and being able to share that with my family and friends that have supported me every step of the way along my journey has been amazing.

I am also part of the Zenico Racing Team, a platform where we support young karters starting out in the sport. Through Zenico Racing, we aim to promote the family-friendly ethos of karting while inspiring and guiding the next generation of drivers.

As I look to the future, I’m seeking sponsorship to help me continue growing in the sport. For 2025, I plan to continue racing at BMKR but in the Junior Max class, which is a step up from the Rookie. I also intend to race at HKRC to gain more experience within the competitive Junior Rotax class at club level. With sponsorship, I can push my limits further, spending more time in the kart gaining valuable seat time and will continue to support others through the Zenico Racing platform.
